The Worshipful Company of Wax Chandlers

The Wax Chandlers are one of the older established companies dating back over 650 years, their origins were in the regulation of beeswax candles, hence their motto “Truth is the light”.

Their Hall is in Gresham Street where they have continuously occupied the same street corner since before Columbus set sail for America. A couple of ‘incidents’ over the last 500 years, including the fire of London required the hall to be rebuilt!

The Wax Chandlers through their interest in the bee are also now focusing on the health and well being of bee pollinators (bumble, honey and solitary bees) shows critical importance to our food security is increasingly being recognised. The Pollinating London Together group seeks to alert others to the danger and damage to the bee pollinators environment, raise funds and establish and support projects and behaviour that will help deliver a sustainable future for them.

The Worshipful Company of Gardeners

The Worshipful Company of Gardeners, first mentioned in City Corporation records in 1345, incorporated by Royal Charter in 1605.

The Company aims to promote the art, science and practice of horticulture and communicate the importance of horticulture to the economy, health and wellbeing, climate change adaptation and mitigation, clean air etc. It encourages and supports the education of horticulture and maintains its relevance to the horticultural industry

The Company supports charitable activities connected with horticulture, particularly in or around the London area, primarily through the company charity but also through other associated charities. It supports the Lord Mayor and the City of London and encourages the beautification of the City of London by encouraging the display of flowers and foliage through its Flowers in the City awards.

The Company is keen to work with similarly minded partners to increase its impact.
