Protecting Wild Pollinators Through Science, Collaboration and Urban Action
Pollinating London Together (PLT) is an independent charity dedicated to protecting wild pollinators and restoring biodiversity in urban environments.
Founded in 2020 through collaboration between the Worshipful Companies of Wax Chandlers and Gardeners, PLT began as a City of London initiative. It has since grown into a science-led organisation working with businesses, schools, civic institutions and communities to deliver measurable biodiversity outcomes.
In 2023, PLT became a registered charity (No. 1201781), strengthening our ability to deliver long-term monitoring, education and habitat initiatives.
Why Pollinators Matter
Wild pollinators — including bumblebees, solitary bees, butterflies, hoverflies, moths and beetles — are essential to healthy ecosystems and food systems.
Urbanisation, habitat fragmentation and declining forage diversity place increasing pressure on these species.
PLT focuses on protecting biodiversity through:
Evidence-based monitoring
Habitat enhancement
Education and youth engagement
Cross-sector collaboration
Strategic knowledge sharing
We prioritise wild pollinators and biodiversity resilience in dense urban environments.
Our Approach
Our work is guided by three principles:
1
Science-Led
Long-term monitoring and structured surveys underpin our projects.
2
Collaborative
We bring together livery companies, corporate partners, academic experts and civic organisations.
3
Practical
We translate ecological evidence into real-world action.
From City Initiative to Independent Charity
PLT originated within the City of London’s Livery community and continues to work closely with civic institutions.
Early support included Community Infrastructure Levy Neighbourhood Fund (CILNF) grants from the City of London Corporation, enabling the mapping and development of biodiversity corridors.
Today, PLT operates as an independent charity delivering projects across London and sharing its model more widely.
Governance & Leadership
Our Board of Trustees and working groups combine expertise in ecology, horticulture, sustainability, finance and civic leadership.
Patrons, Ambassadors, Members & Endorsements
We are honoured to have the support of distinguished patrons, civic leaders, corporate members, not-for-profit members and livery company members who share our commitment to urban biodiversity.
Looking Ahead
As cities continue to grow, biodiversity must not be left behind.
PLT is committed to building resilient urban landscapes where pollinators and people can thrive together.
